For those of us who live, work or vacation here, Santa Catalina Island is a place like no other. First inhabited more than 12,000 years ago, the island’s temperate climate and natural beauty have inspired visitors ever since. Today the town of Avalon is home to more than 4,000 residents and plays host to nearly a million tourists a year. The recreational opportunities provided by its pristine waters and craggy harbors are simply unmatched. All the same, Catalina’s geographic isolation and seasonal economy create difficult challenges. For many, maintaining the most basic standard of living is an ongoing struggle. The fact is that this tiny community could really use your help.

The Catalina Island Foundation (CIF) is a new charitable initiative operating under the auspices of The San Diego Foundation. CIF’s mission is to support local entities that are working to maintain or improve the quality of life on Santa Catalina Island. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
